My insurance company says it is giving me a 20% discount for having a home security system. I recommend Protection One mainly because they put in my system for free (the house was pre-wired though) with a contract for 2 years of monitoring for $20 a month. I did have to pay extra for another key bob to operate the system remotely, but it is incredibly simple to use and mine has buttons for medical emergency, fire, police and panic. Ask for the key bob with the larger buttons because the one that comes with the system has very small ones that are easy to hit while unlocking doors. The only other thing I wish I would have paid extra for is another key pad for the bedroom. Only one came with the system.

Well, it depends. The discount can vary from company to company, so you SHOULD be talking to her agent. Most of the time, a local alarm will do 5%, and a central station reporting alarm 10%, and a direct alarm, 15%.

But it will vary, so talk to her agent first.
